Crossing the border?
Have proof of citizenship and residence with you – either a passport or both a birth certificate and drivers license. Ferry travelers arriving in Anacortes are subject to customs inspections even if they have not left the country if the ferry originated in Canada.
Always declare when you are carrying more than $10,000 in or out of the U.S. or Canada.
Be able to produce identification for any minor children traveling with you and – if they are not your children – that you have written parental consent.
Have receipts for all purchases readily accessible and available.
Know your personal exemptions. Both countries prohibit certain goods from entering: firearms and other weapons, narcotics, obscene materials, endangered species, fireworks and explosives are some basic no-nos.
Declare the exact amount of alcohol and tobacco (including duty-free shop purchases) in your vehicle. Know the limits before you get there or be prepared to pay duty.
